BAIC has a long and proud history dating back to Beijing in 1958. During that time we’ve introduced many automotive innovations and pioneering partnerships.

We’re thrilled to be adding to the BAIC story with our introduction to New Zealand in 2026.

1958

BAIC is Founded in Beijing

BAIC independently develops China’s first sedan ‘Jinggangshan’

1966

First Off Road Vehicle

The B212, China’s first off-road vehicle, is officially placed into production. The B130 successfully passes the trial production.

1983

First Automotive Joint Venture

Beijing Jeep Corporation is established, China’s first automotive JV.

1996

Foton Established

Foton Motor Co. Ltd. is established.

2002

Hyundai Joint Venture

Beijing Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd. is officially established with Hyundai Motor.

2003

Mercedes-Benz Joint Venture

Beijing Benz Automotive Co. Ltd. is officially established with DaimlerChrysler.

2009

Acquires Saab

Acquires Saab intellectual property rights and the annual sales revenue exceeds 100 billion yuan.

2010

BAIC Motor

BAIC Motor is officially established.

2013

Fortune 500

BAIC INTL is officially established. BAIC GROUP ranked Fortune Global 500.

2016

Mercedes-Benz

BAIC Motor officially acquires 35% shares of Fujian Benz.

2017

B80

B80 off-road vehicle serves as the parade inspection car for the Chinese president.

2018

MAGNA Joint Venture

Establish a joint venture with MAHNA and build up a high-end BEV R&D and manufacturing base. 124th in the Fortune Global 500.

2025

Fortune 500

Listed in Fortune Global 500 for thirteen years consecutively.

2026

BAIC Arrives in New Zealand

BAIC launches in the New Zealand market, kicking off with the B30 and X55 SUVs.
