BAIC in New Zealand is growing its electrified vehicle range with the launch of the all-new BAIC X55 Hybrid, arriving in dealerships nationwide now.
The X55 Hybrid joins the recently introduced B30 Hybrids to expand BAIC’s overall Hybrid SUV offering. The Hybrid models are available alongside the petrol variants of X55 and B30.
The new X55 Hybrid brings efficient and powerful hybrid technology to one of the brand’s most popular SUVs, giving New Zealand motorists even greater choice in the fast-growing hybrid SUV segment.
The all-new BAIC X55 Hybrid introduces a new hybrid powertrain that delivers improved fuel efficiency with increased performance. The electric motor delivers even smoother performance and a very quiet and refined driving experience while maintaining the practicality the X55 is already known for.
Available in two highly specified variants, the X55 Elite Hybrid and X55 Premium Hybrid, the latest addition to the BAIC range combines the bold styling, premium features and strong performance of the X55 Premium Plus with the benefits of an advanced hybrid powertrain.
The X55 Hybrid is powered by a responsive 1.5-litre petrol variable valve timing engine alongside a 160kW electric motor producing 310Nm of torque and zero power lag. This combination allows the X55 Hybrid to deliver an impressive balance of performance and efficiency, with combined fuel consumption of just 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres, making it an ideal choice for both urban commuting and longer journeys.
The new model’s RE-HEV technology allows the battery to power the motors at low and medium speeds while energy recovery recharges the battery during coasting. At higher speeds, the engine drives the generator to power the motor and recharge the battery. This technology enables strong acceleration from a standstill and a responsive driving experience. It delivers smooth, seamless and immediate power through a single-speed drive system.
The refined driving experience means the cabin environment is one of peaceful serenity, with all occupants enjoying a quiet commute especially during city driving.
“The arrival of the X55 Hybrid represents another important step in BAIC’s growth strategy and is a significant addition to our New Zealand line-up. It further demonstrates BAIC’s commitment to offering customers greater choice across our SUV range,” said Shiguang Guo, General Manager BAIC New Zealand.
“More Kiwi drivers are looking for vehicles that deliver lower fuel consumption without compromising on performance, comfort or equipment. The X55 Hybrid achieves exactly that, while continuing BAIC’s reputation for exceptional value and premium specification”.
“The X55 RE-HEV is more than just a hybrid version of the current petrol X55. It represents a significant step forward in driving refinement, efficiency and technology, offering customers a premium hybrid SUV that combines strong performance with excellent fuel economy.”
Featuring MacPherson front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension the X55 Hybrid carries the same handling pedigree as its petrol stablemate as well as a comprehensive set of driver assistance support capabilities such as Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), ABS + EBD and Electronic Stability Program functions.
The Hybrid model offers a 12.3-inch central control screen and 10.25-inch LCD instrument screen as well as a starship-style central console and dashboard with smart digital display.
“With hybrid power now available across two key model lines, BAIC is continuing to build a range that meets the changing needs of New Zealand motorists,” said Mr Guo.
“Combined with our seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and highly competitive introductory pricing, the X55 Hybrid offers one of the strongest value propositions in the medium SUV segment.”
To celebrate the launch, BAIC New Zealand is offering a special introductory limited time offer across both hybrid models.
The X55 Elite Hybrid is available from $40,990 + ORC, representing a $2,000 saving from the recommended retail price of $42,990.
The X55 Premium Hybrid is available from $42,990 + ORC, also delivering a $2,000 saving from its recommended retail price of $44,990.
Like every BAIC sold in New Zealand, the X55 Hybrid is backed by a comprehensive seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty, providing customers with long-term confidence and peace of mind.
The new BAIC X55 Hybrid is arriving at dealerships throughout New Zealand from next week. The BAIC network has recently expanded to 14 locations nationally with the addition of Hawkes Bay, Palmerston North, Rotorua and West Auckland on September 1st.
The new model will be renowned for lower fuel costs, smooth and quiet driving experience, impressive acceleration, refined performance – all without the need for external charging.
